About San Agustin Monasterio de la Recoleta Hotel

The hotel occupies a religious monument from the 17th century on Jirón Recoleta, remodeled in 2007. Guests step into a cloister that keeps tiles from the original building, next to a restored chapel. The monastery's old bell tower is visible as you walk up to the entrance. One travel agency places the property on the outskirts of Urubamba, in the community of Chichubamba, so expect quiet more than town bustle.

There are 32 rooms in four types: Matrimonial Room with a queen bed, Standard Double, Standard Triple with three beds, and Luxury Suite with a living room, king bed and tub. Every type has a heater, safe, minibar and 40-inch smart TV. Rooms around the cloister are small and simply furnished, while the newer wing holds two-level suites with the bed on a loft.

Meals happen in the Recoleta restaurant, which seats 60 and cooks Novo-Andean and international dishes. Breakfast is a buffet from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., handy before early starts. Massage is offered, and complimentary oxygen is available for anyone feeling the altitude. Urubamba is listed at 2,700 meters, about 700 meters below Cusco, which makes it a gentler first night in the Andes.
