About Hotel La Casona de Yucay Valle Sagrado

La Casona de Yucay occupies a colonial house built in 1810 on Plaza Manco II, in the Sacred Valley village of Yucay. According to the hotel's own history, Simón Bolívar stayed here while seeking support for independence and spoke from the house's balconies. The Orihuela family turned the house into a hotel about two decades ago, and guests now walk through gardens with maize fields, native trees and an organic vegetable plot.

Rooms include the Premium Doble at 22 m2, with views of the gardens, the mountains or the colonial house, and the Premium Familiar at 43 m2, which has two bathrooms and beds on both of its levels. Meals are served at Tika Restaurante, which cooks with produce from the hotel's own organic garden. Apus Bar has a fireplace, pisco sours, pizzas and local musicians playing Andean music.

Yucay sits at 2,800 m, lower than Cusco at 3,400 m by the hotel's own figures, which may suit the first nights in the Andes. From the village, the hotel names Ollantaytambo, Pisac, Maras, Moray, Chinchero and Machu Picchu as places to visit. It gives the road trip from Cusco city as 1 hour 20 minutes via Pisaq and Calca.

Good to know

  • The hotel puts Yucay at 2,800 m, about 600 m below Cusco, which makes it a gentler place to spend the first nights in the Andes.
  • The Premium Familiar spreads its beds over two levels, with the king bed upstairs and two smaller beds downstairs.
  • Cusco city is about 1 hour 20 minutes away by road via Pisaq and Calca, so this is a base for the valley rather than a quick stop from the city.
