About Skylodge Adventure Suites

Skylodge is run by Natura Vive, an adventure outfitter based at Pachar on the Urubamba to Ollantaytambo road, between km 82 and 84. The three capsules, named Luna, Silvestre and Miranda, are built from aerospace aluminum with a polycarbonate shell that opens a 300 degree view of the valley. They hang about 400 meters up a granite wall, and no road reaches them.

The way in is the point of the stay. Guests follow a protected Via Ferrata route with metal rungs, ladders and safety cables, or take a mountain trail, then sit down to a multi-course dinner with wine that the guides carry up and serve inside the capsule. Beds have thermal down quilts because nights are cold, and each capsule has its own bathroom with a dry ecological toilet.

In the morning there is breakfast on the cliff, and the descent can be made by zipline. Because the base is about 15 minutes from the Ollantaytambo train station, a night here can sit neatly before a Machu Picchu train. It works best as a single adventurous night, paired with a conventional hotel in the valley or Cusco for the rest of the trip.

Good to know

  • There is no road to the capsules: you arrive on foot by Via Ferrata or a hiking trail.
  • Each capsule has a private bathroom with a dry ecological toilet and a limited supply of drinking water, and it gets quite cold inside at night.
  • The base is about 15 minutes from the Ollantaytambo train station, so a night here can lead straight into a Machu Picchu train day.

Questions we get

Skylodge Adventure Suites, answered

Do you need climbing experience to sleep at Skylodge?

The operator advertises the climb as needing no prior experience. A travel writer still warns that altitude, wind and the effort make it a demanding ascent, so expect a real physical challenge.

How far is Skylodge from the Ollantaytambo train station?

The hotel's own guide puts the base about 15 minutes from the station. That makes an early train to Machu Picchu the morning after your stay practical.

Which meals does a night at Skylodge include?

Dinner is a multi-course meal with wine, served inside the capsule. The hotel's guide also mentions a hot breakfast the next morning.

Is there a bathroom inside the capsule?

Yes, each capsule has a private bathroom with a sink and a dry ecological toilet. Lighting runs on solar panels.
