About Sol y Luna

Sol y Luna is laid out as a small village of 43 separate casitas, not one block of rooms. Each is a stone house with its own terrace, and each faces the Andes across gardens planted with Sacred Valley flowers. Inside you find high ceilings, terra cotta tile floors and a wall mural painted for that casita by an artist named Federico, whose colorful sculptures of Andean plants and animals also appear around the grounds.

Two restaurants share the grounds. Killa Wasi is the refined one, serving Peruvian cooking built on locally sourced ingredients, indoors or by the pool. Wayra is the relaxed ranch-style room beside the stables, where Peruvian Paso horses perform in front of the terrace and a wine cellar sits below. The Yaku Wasi spa offers massages and facials, plus a sauna and steam room, and some treatments are aimed at adjusting to altitude.

The hotel exists to fund a school: its profits pay for the Sol y Luna Association, which works on education for children in the valley. Beyond the gardens, the team arranges horseback rides, e-bike days toward Ollantaytambo, birdwatching at Yanahuara, tandem paragliding and full-day trips to Machu Picchu. Between outings, a heated outdoor pool and a hot tub give guests somewhere to unwind.

Good to know

  • The casitas are separate houses spread through the gardens, so expect short walks between your door, the restaurants and the pool.
  • The hotel's profits fund the Sol y Luna Association, which runs education projects for children in the Sacred Valley.
  • Wayra stands about 1 km along the main road from Urubamba toward Ollantaytambo, so the hotel is close to the town but not in it.
