About Tierra Viva Ollantaytambo

Tierra Viva Ollantaytambo, long known as Pakaritampu, stands on Avenida Ferrocarril in Ollantaytambo, a Sacred Valley town beside a major archaeological site. The hotel is a group of terracotta-colored buildings linked by flower-lined stone paths, set in gardens of local plants. An orchard on the grounds supplies fruit for breakfast. Some rooms look toward the Ollantaytambo fortress, and the Quechua name means roughly dawn house.

Accommodation comes as standard rooms, superior rooms and a suite with its own living and dining room. The rooms are plainly furnished, with brightly painted walls and large windows. Shared spaces include a lounge with a fireplace, a reading room and outdoor terraces. Meals are served at Mijuna Wasi, where the menu mixes local and international dishes, and there is a bar on site.

The Ollantaytambo station, where Machu Picchu trains depart, is about five minutes away on foot, and the main square is roughly ten minutes. That makes it practical for an early departure. Cusco airport is about 90 km away. Staff can arrange cultural outings in the valley, as well as hiking and horse riding.

Good to know

  • Rooms open onto outdoor walkways and upper floors are reached by stairs, so ask about ground-floor rooms if mobility is a concern.
  • The hotel can hold luggage, which helps if you travel to Machu Picchu on a short trip.
  • The station and the main square are both walkable, so a car is not needed for an early train.
