About Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica

Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica sits on the left bank of the Madre de Dios River at kilometer 15, inside a private ecological reserve that borders Tambopata National Reserve. Its 35 wooden cabanas are inspired by Ese'Eja culture, and 540 bird species have been logged on the grounds. For a first Amazon stay it is easy to reach: the hotel puts it 25 minutes by air from Cusco, and the final leg is a river ride.

Each cabana has a screened sitting area with hammocks, a canopy mosquito net, a hot shower and organic toiletries. The Amazonica Suite measures 60 square meters, while the Tambopata Suite, at 78, adds a private plunge pool. The signature outing is the Canopy Walkway, a bridge system 30 meters above the forest floor. The Canopy Tree House rises 90 feet and keeps an extra bedroom at ground level for guests who prefer solid earth.

Plan on at least two nights, since the MICHELIN Guide lists that as the minimum stay. Meals and bar service are in the dining room, where a welcome pisco sour is poured at cocktail hour, and the Ena Spa offers treatments on request. Expect to unplug: generators are off for part of the day and night, and the MICHELIN Guide lists no internet access.
