About Muyuna Amazon Lodge
Muyuna sits on the Yanayacu, a small black-water tributary of the Amazon with a single entrance, so the river sees little boat traffic. The lodge is 140 km southeast and upriver of Iquitos, inside the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Reserve, which covers more than 421,000 hectares of forest. A Peruvian family built it in 1999, and residents of the nearby village of San Juan de Yanayacu put up the bungalows.
The 17 bungalows stand apart from one another along the river and the forest edge. Each has a private terrace with hammocks, a large private bathroom and hot water heated by solar panels, plus ceiling fans, orthopedic mattresses and Peruvian cotton sheets. Meals are served in the dining room, where the menu mixes Peruvian and international dishes and a self-serve table holds jungle fruit, tea and coffee. Vegetarian and vegan menus are available on request.
Days are built around guided excursions led by English and Spanish-speaking guides, on foot, by boat and by canoe. The lodge sells set stays of three to six days, plus a four-day birdwatching program. Water level changes the experience: July to September leaves more ground to walk and sand beaches, while high water lets canoes glide close to the canopy. Wi-Fi is available only at set hours.

Good to know
- The lodge runs transfers from Iquitos every day of the year, in the morning, so plan to land in Iquitos before the departure time.
- On the last day guests leave after lunch and reach Iquitos at about 4:00 p.m., so book a flight out for the evening or the next day.
- Wi-Fi works only at certain hours, so expect to be mostly offline.

Questions we get
Muyuna Amazon Lodge, answered
How do you get from Iquitos to Muyuna?
Iquitos has no road links to the rest of Peru, so guests fly in. The lodge collects guests from the airport or an Iquitos hotel, then they go by road and finish the trip by speedboat.
Can vegetarians and vegans eat at Muyuna?
Yes. The lodge keeps vegetarian and vegan menus and asks guests to say in advance if they want one.
Is the lodge better in the wet or the dry season?
It depends on what you want. July to September suits walking and river beaches, while high water suits canoe trips close to the treetops.
Is the Iquitos airport transfer included?
The lodge says its service includes pickup from the airport on arrival day.
