About Corto Maltes Amazonia
Corto Maltes Amazonia is a lodge on the Madre de Dios River, in the Tambopata area, and guests reach it from Puerto Maldonado by road and outboard riverboat. The 27 wooden bungalows stand apart from one another in a garden, so each room feels private. Every room has its own bathroom, mosquito nets and a terrace with hammocks facing the river and forest. Most rooms take one to three guests, and some two-storey bungalows hold four rooms with separate entrances.
Stays are sold as set programs of two to five days, which suits visitors with only a short window. The shortest lasts two days and one night. Longer ones add Sandoval Lake, a visit to a Machiguenga family and the Taricaya animal rescue center. Excursions run mainly inside the Tambopata National Reserve, with guiding in English or Spanish. French, Italian or German guiding can be arranged on request.
Meals follow a fixed daily menu that mixes international dishes with regional ingredients. There is no a la carte choice, so mention vegetarian, vegan or allergy needs when booking. Beyond the dining room you will find a pool with a terrace bar, a games bar with a pool table, a spa for massages, manicures and facials, and a small boutique. Power comes from a generator at set hours, and there is no air conditioning.

Good to know
- The generator runs from 7 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to 10:30 pm, with battery lamps in between, and there is no air conditioning.
- Bags go by small boat, so you repack a lighter bag for the stay and large luggage is stored at the lodge's city office.
- Families with children up to 8 years old must book a private guide, so ask about this before choosing a program.

Questions we get
Corto Maltes Amazonia, answered
Do the rooms have air conditioning?
No. The lodge says the available voltage and the building style rule out air conditioning, and it asks guests not to use hair dryers or irons.
How do guests get from Puerto Maldonado to the lodge?
The programs cover road and river transport between the airport and the lodge, and the river leg is by outboard riverboat. The travel time is not stated on the pages I read.
Can I use a credit card at the lodge?
Not at the lodge itself, where cash in soles, dollars or euros is accepted. Visa or Mastercard can be used at the lodge's city office at check-out.
Is the tap water safe to drink?
No, tap water is for bathing only. Drinking water can be refilled from stations in the dining room and bar, so bring a reusable bottle.
